A Special Race On A Special Date Print E-mail

This Sunday was a red letter day for Red Bull. It marked the team's first victory at The Italian Grand Prix. The weekend saw Sebastian Vettel have his eighth win of the season, in the stunning scenery of Monza. The race was held at the internationally lauded racing circuit Autodromo Nazionale Monza; north of Milan.

It looked as if Vettel had some stiff competition to begin with; from Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. He had a sensational opening, right out of the gate. But the German ended up overtaking the Spaniard; despite how valiantly he drove. Alonso may have started the race from fourth in the grid but he completed it in third.

Jenson Button found himself finishing once again behind Vettel. Button, as well as Alonso switched to harder tyres after the second pit stop. The Brit also drove bravely. But he must be wondering if he can still catch the champion and take his place on the leader board. Vettel looks well on the way to winning two Grand Prix seasons in a row.

But, for many, the biggest talking point of the race was the supposed altercation between Mercedes Michael Schumacher and his younger compatriot; Lewis Hamilton; with McLaren-Mercedes. It looked to some as if the Brit was being hindered by his German opponent while they jostled for third place. It appeared, having gotten ahead of Hamilton, Schumacher swerved twice to maintain his position when the safety vehicle left. This is in violation of the rules, as a driver is only allowed only motion. Hamilton refused to denounce Schumacher, although he was apparently reminded of the rules by Mercedes Team Principal Ross Brawn.

However, in the end, The Italian Grand Prix in Monza proved to be an exhilarating contest. It provided plenty of thrills and excitement for lovers of the sport together. Having taken place on a date, the 11th of September, which resonates around the world.
