It was the night of the 25th of September, when, under glaring floodlights, Germany’s Sebastian Vettel notched up yet another win. This latest victory, at The Singapore Grand Prix, saw him draw ever closer to becoming season champion. But he will have to wait just a little while longer, at least until the weekend.

This is when, on the 9th of October, the fifteenth meet of the season kicks off at the celebrated Suzuka Circuit. It is the site of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix, where Vettel needs just one point to be winner. However there are still other drivers out there looking to spoil his fun.

Jenson Button sits at second place on the standings. The British racer has just cemented his long term future with McLaren, putting pen to paper on a "multi-year contract"

He is followed by Spain’s Fernando Alonso, driving with Ferrari; and in third place on the leader board.  Vettel's Red Bull-Renault team mate moreover; the Australian Mark Webber, is currently sitting in fourth.

Fifth place Lewis Hamilton has been criticised for his driving this season. This is not least by fellow racer Felipe Massa, after they collided in Singapore. But Hamilton contends he has done nothing wrong and vows to carry on

The F1 global Trek now heads east, to The Japanese Grand Prix. It is amongst the final race meets of the year and has seen many deciders. The event initially took place at the Fuji Speedway in 1976 and 1977. But it then started being held at Suzuka in 1987. The circuit is found in Suzuka City, in Mie Prefecture. It was originally a testing course for Honda in 1962, famous for its "figure 8" design. These days however, the circuit hosts Grand Prix racing, and looks set to witness the latest season victory.
