Isn’t it always the same? You wait a long time for a Grand Prix race and then two come at once. Formula One fans have had to do without their motor racing fix for the entire month of August. But now we are into September, and we have two F1 races inside a fortnight. After the crash bang excitement of The Belgian Grand Prix, it is now the turn of the Italian Republic to turn up the heat. This weekend brings us the 2012 Italian Grand Prix.
The countryside north of Milan serves as a stunning backdrop to this year’s illustrious event. The world renowned race is scheduled to take place at two o’clock, on the afternoon of Sunday the 9th of September. It goes on for a tense 53 laps, over a circuit length of 5.793 km.
The 2011 Italian Grand Prix was won by Sebastian Vettel, who will be hoping to replicate that success this weekend. Another former winner Fernando Alonso, who last triumphed at Monza in 2010, will be looking to put his close call in Belgium behind him, by securing his first win this season since Germany. This could enforce his position at the head of the standings. Lewis Hamilton, however, will also be looking to consign Grosjean crashing into him to history, by keeping up the pressure on Alonso. He may have some competition though by his team mate, fellow McLaren driver Jenson Button. He coasted to victory in Belgium last week, but finished the 2011 Italian Grand Prix in second place. He will be looking to better that result at this year’s race.
It is now on to the breathtaking Autodromo Nazionale Monza, close to the town of Monza, near Milan. The scene is set for a blistering formula one meet, set to raise excitement levels of any racing fan.
We are all set for a bella time in Monza.
