It’s now known Sebastian Vettel has already won the 2011 Grand Prix. The German superstar even secured another victory in Korea on the 16th of October. However, with three meets left to run, the season is still motoring forward. This weekend, for instance, heralds a historic first.

The Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida will host the inaugural Grand Prix of India. There have been moves for India to have its own Grand Prix since 1997, with Calcutta as a probable location. There have been other possibilities down the years, but organisers have decided on this exciting new circuit.

The track was formally launched on the 18th of October 2011.

It will originally seat about 110,000 people, with plans to reach 200,000. The venue was completed for around $215 million ( 10 billion [6]). It uses a land mass of 875 acres (354ha), incorporating part of The Jaypee Greens Sports City.

This is now the site of the 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India. It is due to hold its first meet on Sunday the 30th of October at 3pm. The race will last an exciting 60 laps, across a circuit length of 5.14 km (3.19 mi).

It is sadly ironic that, with the tragic death of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, a new world of motor racing is about to open up. It will now see India emerge as a major force in Formula One.
