It was all change at the Korean Grand Prix this Sunday, with Sebastian Vettel scoring his third win in succession. This puts him ahead of Fernando Alonso on the leader board. The German is now six points ahead of the Spanish Ferrari driver, with only four races to go. It has seen a new man rise to top of the standings for the first time in months.
The 2012 Formula 1 Korean Grand Prix is another meet in recent times to begin with a shock retirement. It saw McLaren’s Jenson Button drop out of the race at the very first lap, after a collision with Kamui Kobayashi.
Benson’s team mate, for the moment, Lewis Hamilton, did not fare too well either. It seems the Brit has reserved himself to the championship being out of his grasp, after finishing in tenth spot in Korea.
It was a red letter day for Red Bull though. The Australian Mark Webber started from pole, with Vettel second on the grid. However, when the race was over, the roles were reserved. Webber finished the meet in second place, while his teammate appeared to have a comfortable victory.
They were followed by two Ferrari racers, with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa finishing in third and fourth place respectively. Kimi Räikkönen, with Lotus-Renault, was fifth. Alonso may still believe he can reclaim the top spot in the standings, but it now looks as if Vettel is well on his way to winning his third Grand Prix championship in a row. This comes at a time when it has been announced Vettel could very well be driving for Ferrari in 2014.
He will now be concentrating though on wrapping up this year’s title. The calendar continues with the 2012 Formula 1 Airtel Indian Grand Prix. It goes ahead on Sunday the 28th of October at 15:00, 09:30 UK time.
