This enthralling event was held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on the 10th of June. It was the scene of the McLaren driver’s third win at this circuit in the last five years. This was after he previously triumphed in 2007 and 2010.
The Canadian Grand Prix saw Sebastian Vettel getting pole position. Fernando Alonso started from second place and Hamilton set off from third. The winner of the previous race of the season, Mark Webber, began the meet in fourth spot. Nico Rosberg moreover was fifth and Felipe Massa was sixth.
When the race began, Vettel went out in front. Hamilton, however, eventually overtook the German, as well as Fernando Alonso, from back in third.
The Spaniard only had a solitary pit-stop but his tyres became worn. Hamilton, on the other hand, chose to have two pit stops and finished in first place.
He was ahead of the French man Romain Grosjean, driving with Lotus-Renault. Sauber-Ferrari’s Sergio Perez was third and former front runner Vettel was fourth. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso completed the race in fifth place. Mercedes Nico Rosberg was sixth and the champion of Monaco, Mark Webber, crossed the line in seventh.
The race didn’t turn out too well for Jenson Button though. Button, who won this meet last year, reportedly found it hard to get in his stride and finished 16th.
Michael Schumacher, moreover, had to retire from another race this season. This was when, having made a pit stop on the 45th lap, he couldn’t close the DRS flap on his car. This forced him out of the contest.
