This weekend sees the cream of motor racing set off for Marina Bay for the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix. The 14th race of the calendar will be the 13th Grand Prix held in Singapore. But there is a whole grid of racers hoping this Formula One World Championship won’t be unlucky for them.
The race will go ahead at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday the 23rd of September at 8.00pm local time (1pm British time). The Singapore Grand Prix is distinctive for being held in the evening. It lasts for 61 laps, across a distance of 5.073km.
It will see the return of Romain Grosjean for Lotus F1; following the one race ban he received after the crash in Belgium.
Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull won this race last year and will be looking to duplicate that result. He is still zeroing in on the man at Number One in the standings, Fernando Alonso. However, he still has fellow Red Bull racer Mark Webber on his tail, alongside Grosjean’s team mate Kimi Raikkonen.
There seems to be one rival edging even closer though. It is the only other driver to have won three races this season, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
