Vettel Wins At Bahrain Grand Prix

There were fears this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix may be disrupted by protestors, but the race went ahead as planned. There may not have been as many crowds in the stands as usual, but we still had an exciting race in the desert.

It saw reigning champion Sebastian Vettel’s first win of the season. This is along with having two of the Lotus team on the podium for the first time in over 30 years, since the Spanish Grand Prix in 1979. Kimi Räikkönen was in second place and Romain Grosjean was third.

Vettel’s team mate, Mark Webber, whom had previously spoken of the situation in Bahrain, finished in fourth place. He was followed by Nico Rosberg. The Mercedes driver had a triumphant victory in China, although, this race was somewhat touched by controversy. The driver collided with both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and now faces a steward’s inquiry to see if he retains his position.

Force India capped off an eventful weekend in Bahrain with an incredible performance by Paul Di Resta, who came in sixth. He was in front of the aforementioned Fernando Alonso, who finished in seventh.

The McLaren team moreover found themselves beset with pit crew troubles once again. Hamilton reportedly left the pits with a sticking rear left wheel on two separate occasions. He eventually completed the race in eighth place. His teammate Jenson Button was forced to pull out at the 56th lap, with a broken exhaust. This amounted to McLaren’s worst showing of the 2012 Grand Prix season so far.
