Feel The Heat In Istanbul At The Turkish Grand Prix

Well, it sure was a big day for Lewis Hamilton at The Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. The British driver secured his first win of the season for McLaren. He stopped German ace Sebastian Vettel from scoring a hat trick and winning three races in a row. The RBR-Renault driver may have been left licking his wounds on the 17th, but a season is a marathon not a sprint. There is still a long way to go and the next stop is Istanbul.

This is the setting for the 2011 Formula 1 DHL Turkish Grand Prix. It is the fourth race of this year’s season. The event takes place over the weekend of the 6th to the 8th of May 2011.

The Grand Prix timetable consists of two practice runs on Friday the 6th of May, held between 10.00 am and 11.30. The second practice run that day begins at two in the afternoon, finishing at 3.30. There will be a third practice run on Saturday at 11.00. This is followed by a qualifying round that afternoon at two.
The race will take place on Sunday the 8th of May at 15.00 local time.

The Grand Prix will take place at the world renowned Istanbul Park. It has a circuit length extending 5.338 km with a race distance of 309.396 km. The race goes on for an action packed 58 laps. The record for the fastest lap time belongs to the Colombian race car driver JP Montoya. He logged a time of 1:24.770 in 2005.
The Istanbul Park circuit has an illustrious past, but we now look forward.

Can Lewis Hamilton make it a double? Will Vettel reclaim the number one spot? Will Hamilton’s team mate and fellow Brit Jenson Button rise from fourth place and claim his first victory?

We’ll have to wait and see!

It’s time to talk Turkey.

Hamilton Takes First Place At China

This was the weekend Lewis Hamilton and his fans around the world had been waiting for. It finally saw the British McLaren driver take first place at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai on Sunday.

The racer says he adopted the team’s noted three-stop tactic to overtake previous winner Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton found himself in front with four laps remaining, in what he has called one of his finest victories.
“It is one of the best grand prix wins I can remember” he commented

“I could not believe I was catching Vettel. He was putting up a great fight and it was great to get by him.”

The Brit ended up inside 21 points of his nearest rival. He forced Vettel, driving for RBR-Renault into second place. This prevented him from winning three meets on a trot this season. Vettel’s team mate Mark Webber finished in third place, while Hamilton’s compatriot Jenson Button was fourth.

Vettel was instructed by Red Bull to follow a two stop manoeuvre, in an attempt to catch Hamilton, but it was no good. The Brit had newer, fresher rubber on his tires and managed to overtake Vettel at turn seven.

This is the first time Hamilton has won a Grand Prix race since August last year in Belgium.

It is now on to the fourth race of the season, at the 2011 Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul. Then we will see if this is the start of a run of success for Hamilton and McLaren.

Fans of formula one are looking to see if he can complete the hat trick this weekend in Shanghai, or will Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button, team mates beat him to the punch this time.

This weekend sees a number of practice runs, leading to a qualifying round taking place on Saturday the 16th of April at 14:00. An Amazing Race at 2011 Malaysia Grand Prix

The Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, played host to a sensational second day’s Grand Prix motor racing this season.

Sunday April the 10th saw Sebastian Vettel romp home to victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix.  This is the second year in a row the German driving ace has triumphed at this track. Vettel, a part of the Red Bull-Renault team completed the 56 laps in 1hour and 37minutes 39.832.

He finished ahead of Jenson Button, driving for McLaren, who was second place. Germany’s Nick Heidfeld in the Renault came third, while fourth spot was taken by the Australia Mark Webber in the Red Bull-Renault.

Ferrari took fifth and sixth place, with Felipe Massa from Brazil finishing ahead of his Spanish compatriot Fernando Alonso.

There was a somewhat disappointing showing for Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, racing for McLaren. He reportedly had some trouble in the later stages of the race, leading to him finishing in seventh position.

However, the Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi with Sauber-Ferrari is said to have excelled himself to complete the race in eighth spot.

Unfortunately the former champion Michael Schumacher driving for Mercedes fell behind in ninth place. But a new, inexperienced driver, Britain’s Paul di Resta in the Force India-Mercedes came in tenth, earning a second Grand Prix championship point in the process.

The bad news for Hamilton continued after the meet, when race stewards handed him and Fernando Alonso 20 second penalties after a collision. This did not change the Spanish driver’s place on the finishing board, but Hamilton lost his seventh spot, switching with Kobayashi. This left the British driver in eighth place, behind his Japanese counterpart.

This is what the 2011 Grand Prix leader board looks like after two races.
